Let be, be still and know that I Am God.

Yet again we were at the shore side, and I was staring into the deep blue sea, I can remember on this particular day it was very windy and cold. Through the wind and cold as I was holding a cup of tea in my hand, all I felt was the peace of God bubbling inside my heart. That’s a strange comparison to make, peace busy bubbling on the inside? Well, I truly believe that God wants His peace to be alive and fiery inside of us. So often in life we treat peace as a side dish, optional, however it is not. Part of the heart that God has for us, is a peace that surpasses all understanding, it forms part of the foundation of Christianity. Because it is the result of complete Trust in Him.

While in the wind and cold Holy Spirit just started to talk to me about His heart for us and immediately, I was reminded about Psalm 46:10. Which is quite a famous verse and a lot of people are familiar with it, but as it continuously pressed on my heart, I decided to quiet down and listen to Holy Spirit.

The Amplified Bible talks about “Let be, be still and know that I am God.” By looking at this verse I see three things God inquires of us.

First it is “Let be” and as we know that nothing in the Bible is a coincidence so therefore the psalmist was not repeating himself. God wanted to tell us something specifically. So, at this moment I was reminded of 1 Peter 5:7 which says:” Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.” I personally think that this verse explains what it means to let be. Let be, let go of everything that is weighing you down, by taking it to the feet of Jesus. Give your worries, anxieties, all your cares to God and allow Him to take control of it. If Jesus was willing to go through all that pain to carry a cross for us, I know that when He says give to Me your burdens it is because He knows how to turn them into victory. 1 Peter 5 verse 6 and 7 actually indicates that when we give all our cares to Jesus, we are humbling ourselves under His Mighty Hand. Humbling yourself under the Mighty Hand of Jesus is the best position to be in to gain victory over your circumstances, because then the marvelous power of God manifests in your circumstances.

Secondly God inquires of us to “be still” and for me this is a place of waiting. This is certainly not the most fun or comfortable place to be in for me. I am a go getter. As a child I was playing hockey as a center front and it was partially, because of my go getter characteristic. So, waiting on Gods timing is not always the easiest thing for me to do, but you develop in it as your journey progress with Jesus. Waiting can be difficult, because it usually feels like a place where you feel, you are going nowhere and there is no progress. However, God requires of us to wait expectantly on Him with an unshakeable hope. For me waiting usually occur after God has prompt your heart to do something and you are ready, then God says wait and not just to wait with a sour face, but to wait on His promises expectantly. It is also important to worship while in the season of waiting.

Then alongside the waiting God inquires of us to have faith in Him and this is the place where God longs of us to know that He is God. Even though you do not see the breakthrough, even though you do see the change, or the way being made. God wants you to hold onto His promise and have faith that in the perfect time I AM will move.

If you feel today in a hopeless situation, remember that God is for you, and He has plans to prosper you and give you a future. Don’t give up. You may just be in a season where God wants you to “Let be, be still and know that I am God.”
